It depends because the name is different in Japanese (Green) than in English (Blue)

no it's just green, English translated it to "blue" because america was introduced to pokemon in "red" and "blue" versions, as were originally it was "red" and "Green" versions

so then why is the last gym leader in Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver named Blue? I never understood that.
